“Building a strong foundation in the beginning sets your horse up for a lifetime of success, no matter which discipline they’ll be used for later on.  Having complete control of all the horse’s body parts while riding, and the horse learning to carry themselves properly under saddle not only helps the horse succeed at their job, it also helps prevent lameness and prolongs their riding careers by avoiding riding-related injuries.

Training horses is never a one-size-fits-all situation.  Every horse is different and learns at a different pace and handles pressure differently.  My job as a trainer is to figure out how each individual horse’s mind works, and adjust my program to help them learn and progress to the best of their ability.

I start with groundwork and instilling good manners in the horse on the ground before moving on to training under saddle.  A firm foundation on the ground must be in place before a good experience under saddle can happen, for both the horse and the rider.

Once training under saddle has started, I work on getting control of the horse’s whole body.  If you can control every body part, then you can set your horse up to succeed in any discipline.  No matter which discipline you choose to participate in, the foundational skills are the same across the board.

Along with training and understanding each horse’s learning capabilities, comes knowing when there could be an underlying physical issue that is hindering their learning.  It’s my job as the trainer to set every horse up for success and that includes letting the owner know if I believe there is a physical issue that might need to be addressed to help the horse progress to the best of its ability–this could include farrier work, teeth floating, chiropractic adjustments and massage, or adjustments to tack and other equipment.

Creating a willing, well-educated partner in your horse is my goal so that you can enjoy your rides together and go on to accomplish whatever you may put your mind to.”

PRIVATE LESSONS:  $40/HOUR
(Kaylea’s horse, or yours)

My goal is to help my students be the best horsemen they can be, both in and out of the saddle.  This includes riding skills and groundwork, as well as knowledge about horses and their care.

I’m all about the “Why?” and “How?”  I want to teach my students why we do things the way we do, why horses behave the way they do, how the horse moves and how that movement affects the horse’s performance, as well as how the way we ride affects our horse’s performance, and much more.  Building a strong foundation in the beginning sets you up for a lifetime of success, no matter which discipline you choose later on.

Every student is unique and moves at a different pace, and lessons will be taught based on the individual student’s capabilities.  There are no specific time frames expected for learning each task.

I especially love helping build confidence in a very beginner or timid rider, or a rider overcoming fear from a previous incident.  All lessons are taught with zero pressure to move at a pace faster than the rider is comfortable with.  I will of course encourage riders to push their comfort level when they’re ready to, but I also want my students to know they can say “No, I’m not ready yet,” and they will be heard.

I value effort, try, and a love of learning over anything else.  Even the smallest try, no matter how successful, is to be acknowledged and celebrated.  There are no dumb questions and I will answer all questions with the same seriousness and enthusiasm.  My student’s comfort with me, the horse, and their environment is my highest priority.
